Working With
Communities
TRANSFORMING COMMUNITIES TOGETHER
For many years, I've dedicated my work to nurturing and strengthening diverse communities through the principles developed in The Human Hive. From organizational groups to residential communities and interest-based collectives, we've developed an approach that focuses on cultivating safety, belonging, and purpose for everyone involved. By fostering these essential elements, we enable people to collaborate more effectively and tackle the issues that matter most to them.
My work spans generations and experiences, engaging young people, artists, people experiencing displacement and business professionals alike. At the core of my philosophy is the belief that true progress comes from working "With, not For" communities—a principle that challenges traditional aid and charity models. Instead, we champion independence and co-creation, standing side by side with community members to develop sustainable solutions. Our mission extends beyond immediate problem-solving; we're committed to regenerating people, places, and the planet, creating a ripple effect of positive change that resonates far beyond the communities we directly serve.

Creative ChangeMaker
Programme
Are you an arts organisation developing new work in the community?
Do you run a youth programme or an artist development initiative?
Are you interested in harnessing the power of the arts for social change?

The arts have long been a powerful force for change in society. Through creative expression in visual art, music, dance, theatre, and more, marginalised groups have found their voice, activists have sparked movements, and communities have come together for the greater good.
When applied to the arts my ChangeMaker programme unlocks the creative potential of participants to tell persuasive new stories to promote the regeneration of People, Places and Planet.
I liked it very much. I learned a lot. It was refreshing. It was quite dynamic. It made me feel like we have the solutions within ourselves to resolve the problems that we are facing. We just need to find ways to come into contact.
SUZIE ALEXANDER, CO-FOUNDER OF LOOP-LA-LOOP, ITALY
Working with Darren and his indescribable work is like holding a 3D mirror that has special features. A 3D mirror that shows you what’s going on for yourself from as many angles as you can imagine. Like normal mirrors, that clarity can be unpleasant and surprising, unexpected and delightful, but essentially without it you wouldn’t have been able to work out what was actually happening.
ADELE BATES, BEHAVIOUR AND EDUCATION SPECIALIST
Darren Abrahams’s approaches have inspired transformative change in our Service, from the way we engage with young people and each other to how we manage our organisation. We are passionate about positive culture and inclusive practice; Darren is an essential ally in helping us achieve our vision.
